Note the VVT head gasket does fit non-VVT cars, and offers some increased cooling efficiency. Mazda changed the layout of the coolant ports to try and combat the issue of cylinder #4 getting hot. We find this is most efficient on stock cars WITHOUT a coolant reroute. If you have a 1.8 with a coolant reroute, standard 1.8 head gasket offers the best cooling.
